Bulgaria and the European Space Agency (ESA) signed a Plan for European Cooperating State (or PECS Charter), the press office of the Ministry of Economy announced.
With that Bulgaria proceed to the entry into force of the Cooperation Agreement, which was signed between the Government of the Republic of Bulgaria and ESA on April 8, 2015, which allows for the participation of Bulgarian companies in a number of projects of the European Space Agency.
The official signing ceremony of the Charter was held at the headquarters of ESA. The Bulgarian representative to the Agency and Head of Office of the Minister of Economy Mr. Philip Kirev signed the document on behalf of Bulgaria. The agreement was also signed by ESA Director General Johann-Dietrich Wörner.
Involving Bulgarian companies in ESA projects creates the potential to increase their competitiveness, establishing sustainable relationships between companies, universities and research organizations from Bulgaria with established European companies, research and academic organizations in the field of aerospace and development of the national space infrastructure.
